Commonwealth Financial Network® Hosts More Than 1,850 at Annual National Conference
— A firm for the advisor, by the advisor, returns to the nation’s capital for four–day educational event —
WALTHAM, MA (November 16, 2015)—Commonwealth Financial Network®, the nation’s largest privately held independent broker/dealer–RIA, recently hosted more than 1,850 affiliated financial advisors, staff, guests, and sponsors at its annual National Conference, November 12–15, 2015, at the Marriott Marquis in Washington, DC.
Entitled Connecting with Our Constituencies—Engage, Listen, Inspire, Act, the conference encouraged attendees to strengthen connections and enrich relationships, both with clients and with one another. Advisors attended a wide array of educational sessions, panel discussions, networking events, and sponsor exhibits.
Members of Commonwealth’s management team addressed attendees. Wayne Bloom, CEO, focused on what being a boutique with $1 billion in revenue allows the firm to do. Rich Hunter, president and COO, emphasized the benefit of being a privately owned company, noting how Commonwealth is able to govern with a long–term perspective. Referencing the firm’s popular advisor feedback function, he went on to point out that Commonwealth is “a firm run by all of us.”
A number of insightful keynote speakers presented to attendees. Frank Luntz, founder and president, Luntz Global LLC, offered valuable strategies for effectively communicating and connecting with clients to aid them in achieving their unique investment goals. Dale Brown, CAE, president and CEO of the Financial Services Institute, spoke to the challenges and opportunities for independent financial advisors in today’s regulatory environment. David Gergen, senior political analyst, CNN, and Representative Mick Mulvaney (R–SC) discussed views from Washington.
Dr. Ben S. Bernanke provided perspective on the markets and economy in an on–stage conversation with Brad McMillan, chief investment officer.
Throughout the duration of the conference, Compliance, EasySite, Advisor Marketing, Practice Management, Technology Consulting, and Tech HelpDesk exhibits were staffed by key members of the home office, who offered advisors one–on–one consultations and provided helpful materials, tools, and hands–on support in each critical business unit.
Prior to the start of the conference, Commonwealth hosted its third and final Associate/Senior Mentor Program workshop for 2015. Led by Joni Youngwirth, managing principal, practice management, 19 associate/senior advisor pairings presented both on special topics and on business and personal development goals. During the conference, Commonwealth also hosted its successful mentor roundtable event, where more than 300 advisors received advice from more tenured advisors in an effective small–group setting.
“Each year, our National Conference attracts a record number of advisors from across the country who seek to deepen connections, both personally and professionally, with members of the Commonwealth community—enriching themselves through valuable content, participating in thoughtful discussion, and engaging with industry experts and peers,” said CEO Bloom. “Being able to draw on insights from some of the brightest minds in political and economic thought, while taking advantage of 90+ opportunities for advanced learning, offers real value to our esteemed advisors.”
Bloom added, “Tradition and culture run deep at our National Conference—and gathering in the heart of our nation’s capital evoked a strong sense of pride in our community of independent advisors. We will continue to provide the tools and resources that benefit business owners and their practices and help them lead their clients to financial success.”
For the third year, Bloomberg Radio broadcast “Taking Stock” at the National Conference. Hosts Kathleen Hays and Pimm Fox spoke candidly with Commonwealth’s thought leaders and independent advisors live on–site for two days.
Staying true to our commitment to bettering the lives of those around us, and in honor of Veterans Day, Commonwealth organized a morning of giving back to benefit homeless veterans in Washington, DC. More than 150 volunteers restored buildings throughout the capital that house homeless vets by painting, cleaning, and completing light construction work. Volunteers also had the opportunity to interact with shelter residents and thank them for their service.
