Commonwealth Financial Network's E.J. Sutherland Named a Top 100 IT Leader

Waltham, MA (December 4, 2013)—Commonwealth Financial Network®, the nation’s largest privately held independent broker/dealer—RIA, is pleased to announce that E.J. Sutherland, the firm’s chief information officer, has been named to the 2014 Computerworld Premier 100 IT Leaders list. The Premier 100 spotlights leaders from both the technology and business sides of companies for their exceptional technology leadership and innovative approaches to business challenges.

“The Premier 100 awards program, now in its 15th year, shines a well-deserved spotlight on a group of talented, creative, and hard-working men and women. These IT executives are driving technology innovation in business, education, and government across the country and around the world,” said Scot Finnie, editor in chief of Computerworld.

Finnie continued, “Technology advances quickly, and these leaders excel at keeping pace with the changing needs of customers and employees, and making fast technology decisions that map to their organizations’ top priorities. They have developed a deep bench of talented IT staffers at their organizations and managed to keep their own skills fresh by constantly mastering new technologies and processes. We are privileged to recognize the leadership and achievements of the 2014 Premier 100 honorees.”

Sutherland oversees Commonwealth’s Technology department, including its more than 150-member staff, software, infrastructure, and support. He is also responsible for technology planning and strategy and the management of Commonwealth’s technology investment portfolio.

“Commonwealth commits to providing our advisors with the best technology in the industry, and with E.J. at the helm, I am confident we are delivering on that promise,” said Wayne Bloom, CEO of Commonwealth. “E.J. has an unwavering focus on building Commonwealth’s technology strength—we commend him for his work and offer our most sincere congratulations on this much-deserved recognition.”

“Technology is a core competency for Commonwealth, and it takes well–articulated strategic goals, encompassing both technology objectives and Commonwealth’s overall business goals, to ensure we are providing consistent, indispensable service to our network of 1,450 financial advisors nationwide,” said Sutherland. “To be acknowledged for such efforts, and to be recognized alongside these well-respected leaders, is a privilege and an honor.”

Last year, Darren Tedesco, managing principal, innovation and strategy at Commonwealth, was named to the 2013 Premier 100 IT Leaders list.

Sutherland will be honored, alongside fellow Premier 100 recipients, in a special awards ceremony at Computerworld’s annual Premier 100 IT Leadership Conference, March 2–4, 2014, at the JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort & Spa in Tucson, Arizona. The conference will showcase honorees and other IT innovators, as they discuss how to create competitive IT organizations.
