Commonwealth Financial Network® Hosts Sold-Out National Conference for Financial Advisors
Waltham, MA (November 13, 2013)—Commonwealth Financial Network®, the nation’s largest privately held independent broker/dealer—RIA, recently hosted more than 850 affiliated financial advisors at its annual National Conference, November 6–10, 2013, at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge in Phoenix, Arizona.
The five-day conference, entitled “Shattering the Leadership Illusion: Overturning Assumptions to Drive Success,” encouraged attendees to challenge themselves to go beyond great and lead their clients to new levels of success. Advisors were urged to embrace new ways of thinking, with fresh perspectives presented by innovative thinkers. The event featured a wealth of educational sessions, networking events, and sponsor exhibits.
Commonwealth’s senior executives addressed attendees. Wayne Bloom, CEO, focused on Commonwealth’s service excellence and innovation, while Rich Hunter, president and COO, emphasized the firm’s 2014 technology initiatives. Brad McMillan, chief investment officer, provided perspective on the economy and money—specifically, scarcity and exchangeability.
Three keynote speakersmdash;Bill Taylor, founder of Fast Company; Guy Kawasaki, author and special advisor to Google’s Motorola business unit; and Gabe Zichermann, entrepreneur and authormdash;enlightened advisors on how to distinguish their businesses, infuse innovation into their practices, and elicit client engagement, respectively.
Advisors took advantage of personalized tech help at the technology consulting booth, including advice on new apps that could benefit their practices, while the Cyber Café offered hands-on assistance with technology questions. Commonwealth encouraged advisors and staff to use social media throughout the conference, promoting the hashtag #2013cfn to capture attendee engagement.
Also available throughout the conference, the Four-Corner Marketing booth displayed the latest marketing resources available for advisors to customize. Members of Commonwealth’s marketing team were on hand to help advisors select the pieces best suited for their practices.
In addition, Commonwealth hosted a mentor roundtable event, where attendees received advice from more tenured advisors in a small-group setting.

New this year, Bloomberg Radio broadcast “The Hays Advantage,” featuring Kathleen Hays and Vonnie Quinn, live on-site for two days.

Commonwealth continued its tradition of giving back during the National Conference, seeing its largest turnout to date for a project that benefited Habitat for Humanity of Central Arizona. More than 150 volunteers helped frame three new homes for low-income families.
