Fact: This is a common misconception about 529 college savings plans; every state's 529 plan permits the account assets to be used at colleges and universities anywhere in the United States, as well as at some foreign universities. There are some plans that do provide enhanced benefits for in-state schools, but no programs lock you into a particular school.
