Fiction: My credit score doesn't affect anything but my ability to get more credit.
Fact: Increasingly, credit scores are being used by parties other than credit lenders. Many auto insurance companies now use credit scores as one predictor not only of the likelihood of on-time payments, but also of an individual's overall financial behavior.
Moreover, some financial institutions and employers are increasingly checking credit scores to decide which customers and employees they plan to accept.
