Fact vs. Fiction Archive

Fiction: Having a strong password is enough to keep my confidential information safe.

Fact: Unfortunately, a strong password alone isn't sufficient to protect your information from cyber criminals and identity thieves. Multifactor authentication—one of the simplest and most effective ways to secure your data—can add an extra layer of protection. With multifactor authentication, you must provide two forms of identification in order to log in to a site. After you enter your user ID and password, the website will send a passcode to your mobile device. You then enter this code on the site, ensuring that only you can sign into the account. In addition, keeping the software on your mobile devices up to date and avoiding suspicious e-mails and links will go a long way toward protecting your information.
