A Culture of Fun
Contributing to our community. Enjoying a night at the ball game. It’s all part of a distinctly Commonwealth lifestyle. We’re committed to helping our staff have experiences that are both rewarding and fun—at the office and beyond.

What draws people to Commonwealth?
Most of our staff say it’s our people and our culture. They also cite the opportunities, growth, benefits, and our reputation for being Anything but Common®. Here are some of the things that make us different:
We’re driven. Some of the most knowledgeable, entrepreneurial, and business-savvy people in the industry work here. We strive to provide indispensable service to our advisors and to each other—all day, every day. It’s a great place for people who want to keep learning and to keep moving forward.
We invest in your professional development. It starts with Common Knowledge, our one-week orientation for every new staff member. And the opportunities continue—from tuition reimbursement to helping and paying for you to acquire industry certifications, from industry-specific training to personal productivity and management classes. We consider professional development to be part of our job descriptions.
We give back. Commonwealth makes generous corporate contributions to a number of charitable groups. On an individual level, we actively encourage staff to contribute their time and resources to the communities in which we live and work and to such organizations as the Waltham and San Diego Boys & Girls clubs, UNICEF, CARE, Oxfam, the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge, and local school districts and food banks.
We value the individual. We encourage an atmosphere of individuality where you can be yourself. It’s in our commitment to professional development, to helping staff balance work and life responsibilities, and to nurturing your personal and professional growth.
We’re national, and we’re growing. There are almost 400 of us now in our Waltham and San Diego offices—nearly double our size five years ago.
We like to play. Pickup basketball leagues. Yoga and Pilates. Lunchtime book clubs. After-work wine appreciation classes. Our Fat Tuesday celebration and deep-fried-turkey Thanksgiving event. We work hard, but we play hard, too.
We dress for comfort. Monday through Thursday, we’re professional casual; Fridays are casual.
But wait, there’s more!
Bagels every Friday. Free, fresh, and with all the fixings.
Annual summer outing. A cruise around Boston Harbor. A trolley ride through historic San Diego. A trip to the Del Mar races. We’ve done it all—but we’ll never be done looking for new ways to kick back and have some fun.
Holiday party. At our annual winter shindig, you and a guest will get dressed to the nines and dine and dance the night away. Or you’ll spend the evening shooting pool. Or racing cars. You get the idea—we don’t believe in getting stuck in a rut.
Baseball night. Root, root, root for the home team at Fenway or PETCO Park, depending on your coast. Win or lose, it’s always a blast.
